I know the scale has its merits as numbers don’t lie and I’m a huge numbers guy - but, should that be the only thing? Absolutely not. I’ve noticed many people are more holistic and sophisticated in their approach to wellness where they understand the scale is only ONE of many measures to approach health. If we are using the scale as a measure of success, I can tell you that there are hundreds of more things you can measure. From your daily mood, hydration, having a consistent gym routine to how you manage stress. If you could quantifiably measure the effect of your body weight on overall health, I would take an educated guess to say it’s less than 10% compared to all other lifestyle factors.
Focusing solely on weight loss can lead to an unhealthy obsession with food and body image. Does yo-yo dieting sound familiar? I won’t try to unpack that topic here but one thing we do know is that our metabolism slows as we age… so don’t be too hard on yourself when working through that uphill climb.
